I'm looking forward to version 5, especially for the recovery disk installation feature. Get the best of iMore in in your inbox, every day! Contact me with news and offers from other Future brands. Coronet Blue Top Contributor: Photography. Verified Purchase. My Mac wasn't dead so I can't comment on DW's ability to completely restore things.
But my MacPro was having a severe case of the spinning ball and nothing would get rid of it. Next came iDefrag. This was a long shot and speaking of long it took 8 hours.
Whatever my Mac's problem was, it wasn't fragmentation. That said, very high marks to Cariolis tech service who examined the messages in the Console and pointed out some potential problems. Finally, there was Disk Warrior. After the 8 hour defrag, DW's 5 minute procedure was a bit of a surprise but a nice one. Of course, if you knew what every item was, you wouldn't need the utility or even have the problem, but I digress. I accepted DW's new directory and the spinning ball, while not gone, was greatly diminished.
From then on things just got better. I'm not sure of DW's role in this but over the next few days the spinning ball decreased and ultimately went away entirely! Was this all DW's work? We will never know. But when it came to fixing the problem it got the ball rolling, so to speak.
Apple PowerbookG4 from , non-intel based. My hard drive failed on me after I upgraded my RAM with an additional third-party 1GB stick and installed a copy of Snow Leopard that a friend had laying around. I wasn't seeing the performance gains I wanted so I began reading forums on ways to clean-up my system and optimize the performance. Ultimately I blindly entered commands into the terminal and that was the last time would boot.
I heard about DiskWarrior but was apprehensive about making the investment. Most reports of my error code pointed at a completely corrupted hard drive but I had not completely lost hope. I wanted my pictures, music, and docs but two years would pass before I caved. I had attempted many other options just short of attempting a initialization of my proprietary OSX. In a last ditch effort I took the leap and wouldn't you know it, Disk Warrior came through!
I highly recommend this product. I would have paid hundreds more, in my opinion this was a bargain and a sweet victory. After I recovered my data I wiped my hard drive and put a fresh install of my proprietary OSX and now my laptop works fine.
I'll never know what I did to break it but now it's so old I have no use for it. I'm just glad I never gave up hope. DiskWarrior totally saved me from myself. If you're a college student, with too much time over the summer, experimenting with your computer, then you should definitely invest in this product before you get yourself in a pickle.
Because of all my free time, I had been reading about securing your computer by erasing your free space. I performed it on my startup disk on my iBook and everything went fine.
I performed it on my external firewire hard drive and it stopped mounting. Oh snap. There goes years of data. I read reviews and researched and finally settled on this product. I got it, popped it in and opened up the app. It was amazing that it could recognize something that allegedly didn't exist! So I hit rebuild and let it sit overnight.
I came back the next morning to find it kind of hanging, so I forced quitted it and ran it again. This time, it went straight to rebuilding and showed the report. Even though it couldn't save my hard drive and it took two runs to make it work minus one star , I still recommend it highly. It's worth the money. In fact, every college student should have a copy sitting on their bed in their dorm when they move in or mailed to them when classes start.
It's a life saver. One person found this helpful. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. This software is incredible. Tried Single User Mode and the fsck command but nothing was working to fix the errors on the hard-drive.
This happened just after installing a. We also tried resetting the PRAM, every single thing we googled we tried and nothing worked. The MacBook made the start-up chime and sat on the grey Apple logo and the spinning cog and a progress bar that never loaded.
It creates a replica of the drive, then replaces it, and reboots the system. We were back in! All the files were save and sound, the machine is running better than it was before, far quicker, quieter and more stable.
